Prerequisite: This course is for middle school and early high school students who have completed multiple courses with Mr. Winger and handle the material already presented with confidence.

NO CLASS ON Jul 29, 2021 and one more No-Class day TBD

Students will start the term by learning how to rudimentarily analyze the speeches of the great speakers in history. Using the best speakers as models, they will learn to develop advanced techniques to make their speeches more effective.

The students will then move on to subtler speaking techniques such as the effective use of facial expressions, rhetorical devices, written speeches, and language registers, then use those skills to develop a speech similar to a TED Talk.

Students are expected to prepare a speech in advance of each class then deliver it during class time. It is expected that in addition to a weekly speech, students will do extra homework including writing short reports and analysis of famous speeches. As always, personalized coaching will be given during every session. Students should come to all classes with the same speech notebook and pen or pencil, as usual.
